Register hereWalking is a great form of exercise, it is good for the mind, body and soul. There is nothing more enjoyable than stepping out into the fresh air to blow away the cobwebs!
Having bowel problems shouldn’t restrict you from enjoying the great outdoors and walking is an exercise you can slowly build up over time or you can enjoy a longer walk to admire the nature and scenery.
If you are not used to taking exercise, it may be wise to start with walking round your home and garden, for the first few weeks to gain confidence before venturing out. Just remember that when you are out walking, you have the return journey also, so take it slow and steady and increase the distance week by week, so it is gradual and you feel confident you can do it.
Start with walking regularly and on a daily basis. Walking will help regain muscle strength which may have been lost if you have been sedentary. Take a friend or family member with you, then you can pace yourself together.
If you are an avid walker and feel fitter to go further, don’t forget to take some water to keep hydrated and a piece of fruit or some carrot sticks and hummus to keep your energy levels up. It’s a great way to get in your five a day too (and all helps prevent constipation!)
