Register hereWorld Kindness Day is coming up on Tuesday 13th November, and I think we can all agree that the world could do with more kindness! Working in the healthcare industry, you see and hear about extraordinary acts of kindness each day from nurses, loved ones and sometimes complete strangers. However, on occasion, we also hear stories of cruelty and narrow-mindedness that beg belief.
For these reasons, we think having a day where everyone makes an extra effort to be kind is worth celebrating, and we’ve put together a few simple ideas on how you can get involved:
An act of kindness doesn’t have to be some grand gesture. It could be as simple as sending an uplifting text message or making a phone call to let someone know that they’re in your thoughts and brighten up their day.
Letting someone merge into traffic, helping someone to carry their shopping or even just smiling at people you come across. These small acts of kindness all add up to a large impact that can make a huge difference.
Maybe just give someone a small pick-me-up by commenting on an item of clothing their wearing or their hair. The simplest things can have the biggest impact on a person’s day and general wellbeing.
This one is a lovely way to make someone’s day. If you don’t want to awkwardly ask someone then most coffee houses will allow you to “pay one on” for the next customer. It might also be kind to consider the homeless who could really use a hot drink, especially at this time of year.
Whether it’s these ideas or one of your own, we hope you’ll consider making an effort on World Kindness Day, no matter how small or large.
