World IBD Day 2019 | Raising awareness of Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis

World IBD Day is held every year on the 19th May and unites the world in the fight against Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn’s Disease, also known as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Over 300,000 people in the UK are living with IBD and with no cure or known cause, it’s so important to raise awareness of the disease and the impact it has on everyday life!

World IBD Day is focused on bringing the community together to help raise awareness. There are a number of ways in which you can do your bit in raising awareness, below are just a few of them…

Share your story with others

Don’t be afraid to open up to others and share your story. Each person with IDB is unique and will go through slightly different experiences, but the more representations we can get, the more we’ll be able to understand the disease. And of course, the more we can get people talking about Crohn’s or Ulcerative Colitis, the more awareness we can raise.

Raise awareness on social media

There’s no denying the impact social media has on everyday life, so using it to raise awareness of a disease can be hugely effective! Share your own story of Crohn’s or Ulcerative Colitis on social media this World IDB Day or share other posts about the subject on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram. The hashtags #WorldIDBDay and #UnitedWeStand are also being used across social media channels.

Attend a local event

There are lots of events planned across the country so it might be a good idea to look at what’s happening local to you and head down to support the cause and drive awareness. As an added bonus, you’ll likely meet new people who are going through the same thing and understand the challenges you’re facing.

Wear purple

The colour purple is a symbol of awareness and support for those living with IBD, so dig out your best purple top and help drive some awareness this World IBD Day!
